The infestation with head lice usually belongs at least once to the nursery school time for each family. This is not exactly pleasant - but not even a sunset. According to a contribution by the German Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine, about two to four percent of children are affected in Central Europe. With the right remedies and remedies you are the parasites usually but quickly get rid of. We explain why lice are so prevalent among children in the kindergarten and in the day nursery, and what you can do about it.
The contagion
Headaches are insect-like insects, which feed on human blood. To satisfy this hunger, however, they do not bite indiscriminately somewhere - they attack only the head. With their hook-like legs, they have adapted themselves perfectly to this habitat: effortlessly they move from one hair to the next and change so quickly and unintentionally the owner. The small parasites - unlike the fleas - can not jump.
Lice are particularly widespread among children in kindergartens and day care centers. What is the reason? Actually, the context is quite simple: children are much more likely than adults to have direct body contact with others - when playing, they often literally put their heads together. For the Kopfläuse, it is so easy to find a new host and spread thereby ever further. In wind-ropes they have caught themselves on a strand of hair, which belongs to a strange head - and lay up ten eggs per day, the so-called nits. No wonder lice in the nursery can spread like a wildfire. How lice can be recognized and what can be done about it is therefore one of the most important information for affected parents.
What to do with lice in kindergarten
Remarkable is the head louse infestation usually by strongly pronounced itching. If you notice that your child is uncommonly scratching his head or complaining of an itchy scalp, then you should examine the hair with a special lice comb strand for streaks. Are there fine white spots near the scalp, which can not be combed with the comb? Then your child probably has headaches.
If your suspicion has been confirmed, just one thing will help: In the day-care center or nursery school, report the infestation with lice (this is an obligation to prevent uncontrolled spread) and start with the treatment:
❶ Obtain a head-washing shampoo from the pharmacy and thoroughly read the package leaflet.
❷ Afterwards, it can get started: To treat the lice in your children, massage the shampoo into the wet hair. Distribute it as evenly as possible over the entire scalp, making sure that nothing gets in your eyes or mouth.
❸ The exposure time is up to 20 minutes.
❹ Wash the shampoo so that no residue remains on the hair.
❺ Using the Läuskamm, carefully comb one strand of hair after the other and remove the dead lice from the hair. Strip the tines regularly on a paper towel.
❻ After approximately eight to ten days, you should repeat the treatment. This is how the lochs, possibly still hatched, are placed on the collar.
In the case of lice in the kindergarten, it may also be appropriate to admonish the children accordingly. Explain exactly why it is important not to get too close to the other children when the headlights are in the nursery. In addition, you can regularly check the hair of your offspring for the parasites.
